2024 Kitchen Cabinet Trends: Natural Wood Is Back

Glossy white laminate is giving way to matte, naturally textured solid wood. 4 kitchen cabinet design trends standing out in 2024.

2024 Kitchen Cabinet Trends: Natural Wood Is Back

Kitchen design has seen a clear transformation over the past two years. Looking at orders from our clients and the direction at industry fairs, we wanted to share the themes standing out in 2024.

1. Matte Surfaces and Natural Texture

High-gloss laminate doors now look "very 2010s." Clients prefer matte, lightly sanded or naturally oiled (Osmo, Rubio Monocoat) solid wood surfaces. These don't hold fingerprints, and small scratches spread over time to become character.

2. Two-Tone: Dark Base, Light Top

A darker tone for lower cabinets (dark walnut, black-stained oak) combined with a lighter tone for upper cabinets and decorative shelves (natural oak, white birch) is increasingly popular. This contrast gives the kitchen a sense of volume.

3. Integrated Handles

Classic knobs and pulls are being replaced by hand channels cut below or above the door (J-pull / G-pull). Minimal design, easy-to-clean surfaces.

4. Open Shelf Islands

Instead of closing all the cabinets, adding an open wood shelf system to a corner or kitchen island creates an airy look while keeping frequently used equipment accessible. Walnut and oak are the best choices for this use due to their resistance to kitchen heat and steam.
